Resolutions Revisted

Posted in general |

I came across a post in Gary’s blog revisiting resolutions he made back at the start of the year, it now being quite a bit past the halfway mark. I then remembered I made some resolutions this year too, let’s see how I’ve done.

  • do some freelance design - ended up deciding against this one for the moment, although I had a few people who were interested. I think working at work is enough for me at the moment!
  • become a better print designer - DONE! Well better, yes, but as my starting point was fairly low it wasn’t particularly hard. Plenty of room for more improvement.
  • figure out how to take decent happy snaps with my little camera - slightly better, but not a lot. Did get a lot of great tips on the PIP Forums though.
  • train harder at kung fu - not hard enough :(
  • become a good drummer and lion dancer - better, yes; good… uhh not really.
  • lose weight - was actually doing really well at the start of the year… until my gym membership ran out and it became too cold to get up easily in the morning. Regressed a lot here.
  • get stronger (I’m such a crappy weakling I have trouble open jars D:) - did get a lot stronger while going to the gym, not sure how I am now though.
  • watch more foreign films - if anime doesn’t count here, the only foreign film I’ve watched is Pan’s Labyrinth
  • draw faster - DONE! Though again, plenty of room for improvement as I think I’m still far too slow.
  • master artist’s anatomy - ack, why do I set myself such impossible goals? Can anyone say they’ve really mastered anatomy?
  • draw faces with expression - DONE! Once again more room for improvement, but I think I’ve improved pretty significantly in this area.
  • experiment with new mediums - DONE! Check out my clay experiments.
  • work with permanent media, like copics, ink, paint - nope.
  • be more friendly and bold - DONE! Well I think I’m getting over my shyness a bit at least - I can speak confidently with clients at meetings, mingle better at social gatherings.
  • make more friends - DONE! I’ve become good friends with members of PenCafe, networked more with people in the local web industry and made a few friends in my Japanese class.
  • catch up with old friends - DONE! Hooray for FaceBook.
  • forgive people - DONE! I’ve never been particularly great at holding grudges, so it wasn’t too hard.
  • see if makeup really is worth all that effort - DONE! And it is, I suppose, though only on special occasions. I have no idea how people can wear it every day.
  • wear more pretty clothes :) - DONE! Feeling a lot better about the way I look, in terms of clothing if not physically.

Not too bad eh?

  1. PC randomly jotes down some notes:

    • Camera work

Needs at least a thousand shots before you get really good at it, I think. If you have full manual control you can flexibly shoot most things, depends on the camera - auto mode just isn’t good enough for those special shots. (Ever tried shooting fluoro light signs?)

    • Be more friendly and bold / Make more friends

    I think that one’s covered.

    BTW… is Categories:Graphics Desgin correct? :)

  2. I have some manual control on my little camera, but not a whole lot and I have yet to understand most of it ^^;

    Whoops, category fixed!
